Andrés Felipe Valencia Barrientos (born 6 August 1995), known professionally as Yung Filly or simply Filly, is a British YouTuber and musician. Born in Colombia and later moving to the United Kingdom, he began his YouTube career in 2013, starting a music career in 2017. Beginning in 2018, he appeared on numerous shows, several of which he hosted.
Personal life
[edit]Andrés Felipe Valencia Barrientos was born in Cali, Colombia; he moved to the United Kingdom in 1997 and was raised in Orpington, Bromley, south-east London.[8][9][10] He is a supporter of Crystal Palace F.C.[11]
He started as a broker at the age of 17.[12]
Career
[edit]Filly began his YouTube career in 2013.[13] His content comprised short skits and comedy Q&As.[14] As well as building his own channel, Filly regularly appears on Footasylum's YouTube channel, starring in the dating series Does The Shoe Fit,[15] as well as on Pro:Direct Soccer's YouTube.[16]
In 2018, Filly hosted Hot Property on BBC Three;[17] the show was described by The Guardian as "so youthful...that it should come with a new kind of 18 certificate".[18] In 2019, he hosted another show on BBC Three titled Don't Scream.[19]
Filly appeared for England in Soccer Aid 2020;[20] during the game, he scored a goal.[21] He also appeared on the first episode of a football rivalry series alongside Chunkz, which was aired on BBC Sport.[22]
In 2021, Filly appeared on the first episode of Race Around Britain, hosted by Munya Chawawa.[23][24]
It was announced that he would host a spin-off show of Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof titled Munya and Filly Get Chilly in 2022, which was also hosted by Munya Chawawa.[25] He also appeared on The Great Celebrity Bake Off for SU2C[13] and BBC's Would I Lie To You?[14]
Filly is a frequent collaborator with the Beta Squad, a YouTube collective also run by British content creators. He has also appeared in videos with the Sidemen.
Musical career
[edit]Filly cites his Colombian background and grime music as the big influences on his music career. Growing up in Colombia, he listens to a few Latino artists with his mother and sisters, which makes him fall in love with music. After he moved to London, he fell in love with the grime scene.[10]
In 2017, Filly released his debut single, "Take Time".[26] He would release two songs in 2018, "La Paila" and "Mucho Mas".[27][28]
Filly released "Confidence" in 2020, featuring Chunkz and Geko.[29] He would release two other songs with Chunkz in 2020, "Clean Up" and "Hold",[30][31] which peaked at number 67 and 29 on the UK Singles Chart, respectively. He also featured on Javan's "Again".[32]
He released "100 Bags Freestyle" in 2021; the song would peak at number 53. He also announced a mixtape titled Last Laugh in an interview with GRM Daily.[33]
In 2022, he released a new single titled "Long Time" [34] and later "Day to Day", featuring fellow British rapper and songwriter Chip.[35]
In 2024, he released his new single titled "Grey" after it was teased on Instagram three days prior.[10]
