Here is an upcoming American drama film co-produced and directed by Robert Zemeckis, who co-wrote the screenplay with Eric Roth, based on the 2014 graphic novel of the same name by Richard McGuire.[6][7] The film stars Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Paul Bettany, Kelly Reilly, and Michelle Dockery.

Here is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States by TriStar Pictures through Sony Pictures Releasing on November 15, 2024.

Premise

[edit]

The story covers the events of a single spot of land and its inhabitants, spanning from the past to well into the future.

Production

[edit]

The film adaptation of Here by Richard McGuire was announced in February 2022, with Playtone and ImageMovers producing, Eric Roth writing the script, Robert Zemeckis directing, and Tom Hanks set to star. According to Deadline,[8] to find investors, an auction for the movies rights would be brokered by CAA, which reps Hanks, Playtone and Roth, and WME, which reps Zemeckis and ImageMovers.

Shortly after the auction, on May 2022, the producers, Miramax and Sony made a joint announcement: Miramax joined as the international sales agent and main financier with Sony Pictures acquiring U.S. distribution rights.[9] Robin Wright had been cast before the investors announcement, then in September Paul Bettany and Kelly Reilly joined the cast,[10][11] followed by Leslie Zemeckis in February 2023,[12] and Michelle Dockery and Gwilym Lee in April.[13][14] It reunites Hanks and Wright, as well as Zemeckis, Roth, cinematographer Burgess, and composer Silvestri together for the first time in thirty years after the release of Forrest Gump in 1994.[15]

Production, planned to begin in September 2022, began by January 2023 in Pinewood Studios.[16] The film uses a new generative artificial intelligence technology called Metaphysic Live to face-swap and de-age the actors in real time as they perform instead of using additional post-production processing methods.[17]

Release
