Girchi — More Freedom (Georgian: გირჩი — მეტი თავისუფლება, romanized: girchi — met'i tavisupleba, lit. 'Pine cone — More Freedom') is a libertarian political party in Georgia. It was founded by Zurab Japaridze, former chairman of the New Political Center — Girchi. The party supports Atlanticism.[4]
History
[edit]
The party was founded by Zurab Japaridze on December 26, 2020.
In the 2021 local elections, the party received 1.44% of the votes (25,467 votes) and crossed the 2.5% threshold only in the Tbilisi City Assembly, where it won one seat.[5]
On June 22, 2024, Girchi — More Freedom became a full member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe.[6]
Political platform
[edit]Girchi — More Freedom is a classical liberal and libertarian political party that supports social and economic liberalism and a state system based on the principles of political and economic freedom. The party advocates for political and administrative decentralization, giving the local population the right to elect judges and police chiefs, liberalizing drug policy, abolishing military conscription, and doubling the military budget. As for economic issues, Girchi — More Freedom supports a free market economy, tax cuts, deregulation, and the abolition of the National Bank of Georgia.[7]
