The Journal of Japanese Studies (JJS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering new information and research on Japan. Established in 1974, the journal’s core mission is to publish original, evidence-based scholarship spanning the humanities and social sciences. JJS also features book reviews and “Perspective” essays offering evaluations of specific topics and literature regarding Japan.
JJS appears twice a year with summer and winter issues. It is coedited by Sabine Frühstück and Morgan Pitelka. The book review editor is Jessamyn Reich Abel.
University of California Press publishes JJS on behalf of the Society for Japanese Studies. It’s also available online in the Project MUSE and JSTOR databases.
