The Augustana Vikings are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the Augustana College (Illinois).
The university operates a number of athletic facilities, including Charles D. Lindberg Stadium for football, the Roy J. Carver Center for both men's and women's basketball and men's and women's volleyball, Swanson Stadium/Brunner Field for baseball, the Anne Greve Lund Natatorium for men's and women's swimming and diving, the Lower Campus Courts for men's and women's tennis, Carver Field for softball, Carver Wrestling Arena for men's and women's wrestling, Thorson-Lucken Field for men's and women's soccer, and the Austin E. Knowlton Outdoor Athletic Complex for men's and women's outdoor track and field. [2]
Israeli future Olympic marathoner Shem-Tov Sabag ran for the Vikings track team in 1983 and 1984, during which time he was a two-time All-American in cross-country..[3][4] In 1983, he was the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) 5,000 meter champion.[5][6] He also set the record in the CCIW 5,000 meters in 1984 (while winning the title for the second straight year), with a time of 14:24.36 (still a CCIW championships record as of 2021), and that year also set the Credit Island Park four-mile course record with a time of 19:33 (as of 2009, that was still the school record in the four-mile).[7][8][9][3][10] In 1984 he won the CCIW cross-country championship, and also won the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana.[11][3][12]
