ZU Bakery is a bakery located at 81 Clark Street in Portland, Maine that won a James Beard award in 2024.[1][2][3]
The bakery opens at 9 a.m. to serve French pastries. As those sell out they are replaced by breads and finally pizzas. In addition to traditional French-style pastries and breads, it bakes Irish scones and Italian biscotti.[1]
History
[edit]ZU Bakery was founded by Barak Olins in a Freeport, Maine barn owned by his brother and sister-in-law in 2000.[2] It moved to Clark Street in Portland's West End in 2022. The bakery uses wood-fired ovens to bake French-style pastries.[4] It won the James Beard Foundation Award for Outstanding Bakery in 2024.[5]
