History
[edit]Version 1 was established in Dublin, Ireland in 1996 by Justin Keatinge and John Mullen.[4]
In the years leading up to 2011, Version 1 was named in the Deloitte Fast 50 list,[5][6] employed more than 150 consultants and had annual revenues of €17.5m.[7]
In 2014, the company opened its London office and expanded its Belfast office.[8][9][10] Version 1 acquired the UK-based Tieto Corporation,[11][12][13] and were recognized as one of the top 50 workplaces in Europe.[14] They went on to acquire UK-based Rocela Group[7][15] along with the UK-based Patech Solutions.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22] By year end, they had a total of eight international offices employing more than 500 consultants with annual revenues of €60m.[23]
In 2017, the UK equity firm Volpi Capital LLP became the majority shareholder in Version 1 in a deal that saw a €100 million buy out of the original founders and shareholders.[24] Shareholders included the Development Capital Fund, who invested c. €8m in 2014 and realized in excess of c. €20m on their investment. This buy out raised €90 million of expansion capital to allow Version 1 expand its operations in the UK and Europe.[25] On 24 April 2017, Tom O'Connor was appointed as Version 1 CEO after former CEO Justin Keatinge resigned. Keatinge stayed on Version 1's board and remains a major shareholder.
In 2018, Version 1 announced a €1 million investment into its Innovation Labs. The current areas of focus are: Blockchain, Internet of things, Chatbots, Machine learning, Virtual reality and Augmented reality.[26] In June 2018 Version 1 acquired the HR Transformation specialist Cedar Consulting Ltd.[27]
In 2019, Version 1 was presented alongside ICBF at Oracle OpenWorld, where a Blockchain Solution for the trace-ability of Irish Cattle and meat was discussed.[28] Version 1 also presented at Microsoft Future Decoded 2019, Microsoft's main UK event, with Roger Whitehead, Advisory Services Lead at Version 1 discussing the impact of Application Modernisation.
In 2022, Version 1 are nominated for "Employer of the Year" in the Women in IT Awards 2023.[29]

Version 1 has been a Platinum Partner for Oracle in Cloud Managed Services and has the Largest Oracle capability in the UK and Ireland.[31] In 2023, they were named Oracle's Innovation Partner of the Year (EMEA) [32] Most recently, in 2024, Version 1 achieved significant recognition at the UK Oracle User Group (UKOUG) Community Awards. They won a total of 14 awards, including 8 Gold, 5 Silver, and 1 Project award across various categories. [33]
Version 1 is a Microsoft Solutions Partner and has worked with Microsoft since 2006, being named Microsoft Partner of the Year in 2011, Application Development Partner of the Year for Ireland in 2015, and Business Intelligence and Data Analytics Partner of the Year in 2016.[34] In 2019, Version 1 were awarded Microsoft's 2019 Partner Award for Intelligent Cloud – Data Estate Modernization.[35] Version 1 were named global winner in the Modernizing Applications category in the 2023 Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards.[36] This award highlights their innovative work with National Highways, particularly their transformation of the National Incident Liaison Officers (NILO) application. This project significantly improved the speed and efficiency of incident reporting, enhancing road safety and user productivity. In 2024, Version 1 was named a finalist in the Inclusion Changemaker category at the Microsoft Partner of the Year Awards.[37] This recognition came from their innovative work with The National Museum of Computing on the TNMOC Mate app. The app uses generative AI to make the museum more accessible and engaging, catering to diverse languages and the neurodiverse community.[38]
Version 1 was one of the first Amazon Web Services Partners in Europe and is a Premier Consulting Partner across areas such as Migration, Public Sector and Managed Services Provider.[39] Version 1 was awarded the AWS Migration Partner of the Year for their exceptional work in helping customers migrate to AWS.[40] Version 1 was recognised as the Collaboration Partner of the Year at the 2023 Geo and Global AWS Partner Awards. This award celebrates their successful collaboration with multiple AWS partners to address customer challenges, particularly in the public sector.[41]
Version 1 collaborates with Red Hat to provide enterprise-grade open-source solutions, enhancing their cloud and automation capabilities.[42]
Version 1 partner with Snowflake to deliver advanced data warehousing and analytics solutions, helping clients leverage their data for better decision-making. [43]
