The award first took place in October 1979 at the Sheraton Universal Hotel in Universal City, California.[1][2][3][4][5] In 1983, it was called Best Young Actress in a Daytime Soap.[6] In 1984, Daytime and Nighttime was combined into one category which was called Best Young Actress in a Daytime or Nighttime Television Series.[7] In 1987 and 1988, there was no award given.
