David Thomas Morris CStJ (born 1986) is an Anglican bishop in the Church in Wales who is assistant bishop for the Diocese of Bangor.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]He was born in Cymmer, Rhondda, Wales in 1986.[1] He graduated in theology from the University of Wales, Bangor, graduating with a Bachelor of Theology degree in 2007.[2] He then trained for ministry at St Michael's College, Llandaff, graduating with a Masters Degree in Theology in 2010.[1]
Ordained ministry
[edit]He was ordained in the Church in Wales as a deacon in 2009 and as a priest in 2010, at Llandaff Cathedral.[2] He was then the youngest priest in the Church in Wales.[1]
In addition to his parish ministry, Morris has been a chaplain to St John Ambulance Cymru since 2010.[1] In January 2020, he was appointed Commander of the Most Venerable Order of St John (CStJ).[3] He was appointed dean of the Priory for Wales in 2019 and is a trustee of St John Ambulance Cymru.[4]
In May 2022, Morris was appointed as Residentiary Canon at Bangor Cathedral and Director of Ministry at the Diocese of Bangor.[citation needed]
On 19 January 2024, it was announced that he would be the next Assistant Bishop of Bangor.[1] His consecration took place on 11 May 2024, and he became the titular Bishop of Bardsey.[1][5] At the age of 38, he became the youngest ever bishop in the Church in Wales.[1]
Personal life
[edit]Morris is engaged to marry Marc Penny: the Church in Wales allows its clergy to enter into same-sex marriages.[6][7]
