Polygyny is a form of polygamy in which a man has more than one wife, girlfriend, concubine, mistress, or female sexual partner. Polygyny has been widely practiced and celebrated in many cultures and it is the most common and accepted form of polygamy. The word polygyny is often used in reference to humans but it is observed in many animals such as Gorillas, Tigers, Lions, Elk, and Bison. Males compete against each other to be able to gain exclusive mating access to a group of females. Competition between males is often violent and bloody. Polygyny is currently legal and practiced in many countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Libya.
