Thomas Michael Simons (born 9 April 2004), better known as TommyInnit (/ˈtɒmiˌɪnɪt/ TOMM-ee-inn-it[2]), is an English YouTuber and Twitch streamer. He produces Minecraft-related videos and live streams, including collaborations with fellow YouTubers and streamers in the Dream SMP.[3][4] Joining the Dream SMP caused his YouTube and Twitch channels to increase in popularity.[5] As of 24 April 2023, his eleven YouTube channels have collectively reached over 27.74 million subscribers[a] and over 2.82 billion views;[b][6] his two Twitch channels have reached over 9.02 million followers,[c] making him the most-followed Minecraft channel on Twitch,[7] as well as the 18th most-followed overall.[8][9]

Early life

[edit]

Thomas Michael Simons[7][10][11] was born in Nottingham, England,[12] on 9 April 2004.[13] During secondary school, Simons cheated on some of his mock examinations. The COVID-19 pandemic caused these grades to be counted as his official GCSE grades, as well as some of his lower grades to be rounded up to be significantly higher.[14]

Career

[edit]

YouTube

[edit]

Simons created his first YouTube channel, Channelnutpig, on 15 February 2013[15] and his TommyInnit channel on 24 December 2015.[16] He uploaded his first video on his TommyInnit channel in September 2018.[17] Simons typically uploads videos consisting of him playing Minecraft.

On 6 August 2019, Simons uploaded his first video relating to SkyBlock, a minigame on Minecraft server Hypixel.[18]

On 1 April 2021, Simons created a new YouTube channel under his own name,[19] uploading the first video onto it two months later.[20]

Twitch

[edit]

Simons began streaming on Twitch in late 2018, where he regularly streams Minecraft and "Just Chatting".

On 4 July 2020, Simons joined the Dream SMP,[21][22] a roleplay-focused Minecraft server run by YouTuber Dream.[23]

On 20 January 2021, Simons live streamed the finale of the Dream SMP, titled The Dream SMP Finale, which peaked at over 650,000 viewers, making it the third-highest all-time concurrent viewer livestream on Twitch, overtaking Ninja's Fortnite collaboration with Drake.[24][25][26] His streaming ventures would then earn him two Guinness World Records,[7] claimed with the help of content creator Jack Welsh for "most viewers of a Minecraft gameplay live stream on Twitch" and "most followed Minecraft channel on Twitch".

During 7–24 June 2023, Simons performed a live show across the UK, titled TommyInnit: Annoying At First, with fellow content creators JackManifoldTV and Badlinu.[31] On 5 May 2023, Simons held a one-off sketch comedy show at The Old Market in Hove, England.[32][33] On 12 December 2023 Tommy announced 'Tommyinnit: How To Be A Billionaire' the United States tour beginning on 12 March and ending on 25 April 2024.[34][35]

Book

[edit]

On 4 August 2022, Simons announced a book that he had been writing with fellow YouTuber and Twitch streamer William "Wilbur Soot" Gold titled TommyInnit Says...The Quote Book.[36] The book was released on 13 October 2022.[37] All of the sales money from the book is being donated to Sarcoma UK in honour of Simons' and Gold's late friend Technoblade,[38][39]: 0:08 to whom the book was also dedicated.[40][39]: 0:12

The Sorry Boys

[edit]

In 2023, Simons, along with fellow Twitch streamers and YouTubers Wilbur Soot, Ph1LzA, Slimecicle, and Ranboo, started a new comedy group YouTube channel called The Sorry Boys. The channel mainly posted sketch comedy group vlog content, with a heavy emphasis on improvisation.[41]

Personal life

[edit]

Simons has lived in Brighton since January 2022,[42] having previously lived in Nottingham with his parents.[43]

On 19 November 2022, Simons released a video on his main YouTube channel, announcing to his audience that he has a girlfriend. Her face and real name were not revealed. She instead was given the nickname "Em".[44] On 6 May 2023, Simons uploaded a video titled "Minecraft, But My Girlfriend Face Reveals...", in which his girlfriend's face and real name, Molly Melinks, were revealed.[45]
