Eureka is a 2023 drama film co-written and directed by Lisandro Alonso, starring Viggo Mortensen, José María Yazpik and Chiara Mastroianni. The film is narrated by Eureka, a woman who became a migratory bird to create a connection between the years 1870 and 2019 and the United States, Mexico, and the Amazon rainforest.[1]

The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival on May 19, 2023.

Synopsis

[edit]

Eureka is a bird that flies across different geographies of the American continent; in its flights, it also travels through time. The film is narrated in three distinct sections. It examines the indigenous peoples of the Americas and how they have inhabited their specific environments across the centuries.

The film's first part, entitled 'Western', takes place in a lawless township on the US-Mexico border in 1870, with Viggo Mortensen playing the role of a father, Murphy, searching for his kidnapped daughter.[2]
