[edit]- January 14 – 2000 Yunnan earthquake: An earthquake measuring 5.9 in magnitude occurred in the Yunnan province in southwest China, killing 7 people and injuring at least 2,528 more. Almost 41,000 homes were levelled by the earthquake.
- January – Baidu, an internet search engine, was founded.[1]
