Michel Abitbol (Hebrew: מיכאל אביטבול; born 14 April 1943 in Casablanca, Morocco) is a Moroccan-Israeli historian.
He is considered an expert on the history of Morocco and the history the Jews of North Africa.[1] In the 80s, he gave courses at Université Paris VIII and Yale University. He is currently professor and chair of the Department of African Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.[2] He is the scientific director of the Center for Research on Moroccan Jewry, founded in Jerusalem in 1994.[3]
He writes his books and monographs in French.
From 1978 until 1981 and from 1987 until 1994 he was the director of the Ben-Zvi Institute in Jerusalem.[4]
